Was about to add a bunch of things then got distracted going through old posts on here. That led me to this performance by Tina Arena.
I like the first song, turns out it’s a cover and she never recorded it :(
Haven’t really bothered with the second. Chorus is a neat idea.

Like the real bassy grimy sound, but that Soft Cell guy wrecks it.

I watched The Top Bet today, then watched a little doco on Anita Mui. She became a pop star by singing a cover of 風的季節, which I liked a video of a little while a ago. I didn’t actually know she was a big pop star, never looked much into Cantopop.
Cover of Sexy Music. I remember being a bit surprised the the original was by The Nolans, ‘cause I thought they just did covers. I guess them and Wink and pretty similar in that way.
Wikipedia says the title translates to ‘A Fire In Water’.
And I like this one waayyyy better than the original.
Otherwise, There’re two covers I’ve been listening to a lot (apart from stuff I’ve already posted). Both good for lights-out, pre-sleep, listening.
I like this one a little better than the Pet Shop Boys one.

Song doesn’t really show it, but she has a nice breathy, Akina Nakamori-like voice.
I also like her song Cha-Cha-Cha, off the same album.
There was also a Nick Cave version of Cosmic Dancer playing when the documentary subject was close to passing away. Devastating, but such a great fit for a person who seemed to have such a full life of good and bad. It’s stuck with me all day.
Picked this live version with Warren Ellis to share. I used to listen to The Bad Seeds and Dirty Three a lot when I was in my 20s. It’s nice to connect with something by them both again.

Found this via a version of To Love Somebody with him, Marcia Hines, Brian Cadd, and Max Merritt. Had never heard of him before, but he’s got a great voice. This song doesn’t show it off so much, but you do get some of the rich Tom Jones kind of quality his voice can have. Still, a fun song.
I really like Marcia’s voice, you can really hear that she’s smiling when she sings this. Unfortunately most of her other song choices aren’t really my thing.

I just learned two things: That the song’s a cover, and that the title is ‘coconut’s unrequited love’. I like it even more now.

Been working on a wiki page to collect together my fave covers of Western pop songs by Asian artists, and was reminded of this great version of Quando, Quando, Quando. The guitar is so good.
I like this idea of doing a cover where you take the melody but changes the words.

A Kylie Minogue cover. According to the Youtube comments this was their last TV performance, that’s why one of them is upset.
2019 edit: Again, the video’s been taken down, so I’ve had to replace it with one I just kinda liked.
2020 edit: And gone again, so I’ve found what I think is the original one and uploaded it. I’ve also learnt the tears are because they were moved by their song becoming number one in Japan.
