Uh oh, back on this channel again. Bangin’ MIDI guitar.
Had to replace the video because the channel died. Guess I didn’t download a backup, so this’s the real song not the karaoke version. No MIDI guitar, but fun choreography with the telly wall.
Breadcrumbs dropped on music wanderings.

Fun video, neat hooks.
Found it via this very VHSy video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugMAlMwk-Kw
Got slowly obsessed with 私Mailuwa, and forgot to close-off this thread. This’s what happened to me with ♂×♀×Kiss too; logged it but thought not too much of it, but ever since have played it pretty regularly.
I think I actually found it via that song too—? They both have fast-singy bits—
And I like this one waayyyy better than the original.
Otherwise, There’re two covers I’ve been listening to a lot (apart from stuff I’ve already posted). Both good for lights-out, pre-sleep, listening.
I like this one a little better than the Pet Shop Boys one.
I feel like I never listen to Momoe Yamaguchi much, even though I usually like songs when I hear them, just never feel like I’m in the mood for that era. This one’s great, much sassier than I was expecting.
The second half of this video has a great version of this too, visually.
I ended up getting the single of this. Sounds much flatter, less rowdy, but has a nice synth that comes in.
She has one of them Youtube-famous city pop songs, so I’ll skip posting that. But this’s another real good one.
Her other records are a bit patchy, but here’s a song off the one I like most so far: Yahhoo!!. Maybe it’s just the Ito Chieri and OutRun vibes?
Jumping back in time a bit—I meant to add this song.
I love that rich ‘youuuuuuuuuuuu’ so much. It’s like an owl. Penetrates my skull, like I’m singing it myself. Reminds me a bit of the way Miki Matsubara sings her vowels. Song itself reminded me of the way that みずいろの雨 song by Junko Yagami comes in.
And somehow this is a B-side~
Amazing set.
Also with Shizuka Kudo and Akiko Ikuina from Onyanko Club. I don’t think Marina Watanabe was in that group (but I’m no expert), so dunno what the deal is there.
Ah! Girls on the roof!
Continuing where I left off.
Good yellow video.
Good video.
All the songs I’ve listened too have this same kinda good, kinda forgettable vibe.
Can’t remember what video was here before, but this one is also live and has a good outfit.
君たち Kiwi Papaya Mango だね。
Ah, this is her famous song.
Oh, she tells the coconuts about her unrequited love, it’s not the coconuts with the unrequited love :(
This’s the original. I don’t like it as much though.
I just learned two things: That the song’s a cover, and that the title is ‘coconut’s unrequited love’. I like it even more now.
And here’s a cover version.
I found this song in a video of impersonations from モノマネ王座, then did some Google Translating to find the original. What a great voice. Song comes in swinging.
Had to replace video with a badly mixed one :(
Recently started a new blog project called J-POP LANDSCAPES, so’ve been watching lots of J-Pop videos again. Haven’t turned-up much new stuff that I like, but the chorus of this song’s neat, and I’d never heard of Akiko Matsumoto before.
This’s since become a fave of mine. Love the grubby bass too.
Aaaaaaaaa this one is very familiar. Not because it seems to be chunks from other songs.
Starting to wish I was this person TBQH.
That’s a damn catchy chorus. Kong must be very lonely.
2024 edit: This video predicted the death of Twitter.
Went through a bunch of her other songs and none really stuck, but I like this.
I think I initially clicked on it because the album has a nice cover.
Turns out it’s a good thing I didn’t post a break, as I’m back to playing Stay With Me and Tatsuro Yamashita’s Love Talkin’ over-and-over. They’re just the best :D
Even found transcriptions and translations of the lyrics and put them on my wiki:
Been working on my Japanese disco-y playlist, I think that’s to blame.
Another Miki! She has an Idol Miracle Bible Series (like one of my faves Chieri Ito) release that’s pretty solid.
Like the design of the cover, the way the diagonal title matches the angle of the shoulder and eyes.
Haven’t looked at anything J-Poppy for a while, but been buying-up some faves that I only had in digital formats, surfing a private J-Pop torrent tracker, and seeing where Youtube takes me again.
I’m sure I’ve listened to this song a bunch in the past, but can’t figure out where. Needs to be in my City Pop playlist!
This video gets taken down a bunch. Current embed has some annoying swirly effect on it, maybe to mitigate this.
Wow, nice intro.
Must… stop…
So… this song’s still stuck in my head.
Another great Ito Chieri song I first heard on that Idol Bible Whatever album, this one also being a single from her album Chieri.
Gives me Triffids vibes in that softer part, and some of the singing has a nice rhythm to it; kinda slurry.
I’ve been fond of her ‘best of’-type collection—Idol Miracle Bible Series Ito Chieri—for a while. This song’s on there, as well as the album Hello. I think she only released a few before concentrating on acting, though there are a few later singles about too. I also love Christmas songs.
Gah, and the disco-esque opening of this song sounds very similar to something very obvious I can’t recall right now Щ(゚Д゚щ)
That’s a good logo.
Edit:
Hold up, are people doing that Angels thing where they shout ‘no way, get fucked, fuck off’?
AMUSING LIVE RECORDING
Are You Ready!?
EXCITING LIVE RECORDING
I don’t like this version quite as much.
Live at Central Park, Nagoya (as best I can tell).
‘Super Jockey’; that’s me.
I really like how clunky J-Pop is sometimes. That goes for other supposedly hyper-polished things too.
This is from the same album as 春・ミルキーウェイ
Posting this one for the nice colours.
Have to keep reminding myself that Youtube is pretty crummy for finding new J-Pop, especially if you don’t know Japanese.
Having a search for CoCo songs (prompted by the neat blog JPop80ss) hasn’t turned up much, but this first song is pretty good, and I like the bad singing. The chorus of Yokohama Boy Style is okay, too.
Hand dancing in a bubble.
A Kylie Minogue cover. According to the Youtube comments this was their last TV performance, that’s why one of them is upset.
2019 edit: Again, the video’s been taken down, so I’ve had to replace it with one I just kinda liked.
2020 edit: And gone again, so I’ve found what I think is the original one and uploaded it. I’ve also learnt the tears are because they were moved by their song becoming number one in Japan.
Another great video. I already like 80s J-Pop a lot, but I’m trying to avoid posting videos I’ve seen before. So no Dancing Hero, for example.
2019 edit: The old video’s been taken down, but this one’s something neat too. Also, it has a lot of watches.
A new J-Pop adventure—
